McClain drops 3rd straight to start season

LEES CREEK — A rough first inning, mixed in with five errors, was a recipe that didn't turn out very well for the McClain Tigers on Thursday, as they lost their third straight game to begin the 2012 season, falling to the East Clinton Astros, 9-2 at ECHS.
East Clinton scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and from there added one run in the third and one more in the sixth for the win.
MHS (0-1, 0-3) scored one run each in the final two innings, as MHS has losses also against Logan Elm and Madison-Plains this season.
For the day, MHS totaled six hits, while the Astros totaled nine hits and one error.
MHS starting pitcher Ryan Perie (0-1) was charged with the loss, as four of the seven runs in the first inning were earned.
Jordan Boles pitched in relief, giving up two runs (none earned).
"(Jordan) Boles came in and settled us down on the mound," MHS head coach Brandon Streitenberger said. "He was the lone bright spot in an otherwise ugly performance."
Leading the Tiger hitters was Jerrod Todd (2-for-2, with one stolen base).
Zach Puckett, Perie, Kyle Flora and Trevor Gossett also contributed hits for the Tigers.
McClain travels to VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe for a 7 p.m. contest against North Adams on Friday, March 29 in a non-league game.
