The successful 2013 Lynchburg-Clay boys soccer season came to a sudden close Saturday morning in Jackson. The LC season saw the door slammed shut after they fell to the South Webster Jeeps, 2-1 in the Division III SE District Semifinals.
LC trailed 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 with 39:18 left in the second half, following goals from South Webster's Shane Zimmerman.
Zimmerman's first goal came with 1:43 left in the first half off a penalty kick, and the Jeeps gained the 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal by Zimmerman with 39:18 left in regulation.
"They scored off a penalty kick that was a result of a question call," LC coach Dennis West said. "I may have to live with the call, but I don't have to agree with it.
"On their second goal, we got disorganized on defense early in the second half, and they took advantage of it."[[In-content Ad]]
The lone goal for the reigning Southern Hills Athletic Conference champion Mustangs came with 23:16 off a free kick from Chaz Lanier from around 40 yards away.
LC totaled 19 shots in the match, while SW had seven.
The loss leaves LC at 13-3-2 overall for the season, as they went 7-0 in the SHAC.
"We were just peppering the goal in the final five minutes, but we just couldn't get the ball in the net," West said.
The district final match will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at JHS when South Webster faces Berlin Hiland at 1 p.m.
Seniors for LC in their final match were Josh Bauer, Doug Cooper, Colt Dunseith, Jeremiah Hacker, Mason Jordan, Chaz Lanier, Bryce Pfister and Gage Waits.
