London tops HHS in 4 sets

HILLSBORO — The first set on Monday evening went the way of the Hillsboro Lady Indians, but the next three, though close, didn't favor the home team, and with that, HHS fell to the London Lady Red Raiders in four sets at Hillsboro High School.
The South Central Ohio League loss sends the Lady Indians to an overall record of 3-6 with a league mark of 1-4. The win puts LHS at 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the SCOL.
HHS won the first set 25-18, but then dropped the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21.
[[In-content Ad]]For the entire match, the score was tied a grand total of 15 times, including eight times in the third set (the final time at 20-20).
The first set for the Lady Indians included a tied score of 2-2, then at 7-7 and 10-10 as Autumn Hacker and Heather Tipton were a big part of scoring points for the Lady Indians in that span.
Later with HHS leading 13-11, the Lady Red Raiders' Hannah Martin brought her team within one point of a tied score again, but the first set score wasn't tied for the remainder of the match as the Lady Indians led with points by Hacker, Megan Overberg and Tipton … along with points from out of bounds hits for the 25-18 win.
In set two, HHS led 2-0, but LHS ran off seven consecutive points for a 7-2 lead with help from Paige Berschet. The score wasn't tied for the remainder of the second set as the Lady Red Raiders added more points, including four straight at the end of the set for the 10-point win.
Set three was the closest of all the sets as it was tied at 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 20. Helping get to those tied scores for HHS were Hacker, Lily Marshall, Kirsten Juillerat, Kerstin Thornburgh and Ali Stratten as they contributed to the point scoring of HHS.
After the score was tied at 20, the Lady Red Raiders ended the set with five straight points at 25-21.
The fourth set had the score tied early at 2-2 and 3-3, but from there on, the lead exchanged sides multiple times. In the end, it was the Lady Red Raiders who rallied late, scoring the final two set points to win the match.
HHS will play again on Wednesday as they travel to Madison-Plains at 5 p.m.
