Lions win 9th game of season, top Blue Jays

LEESBURG — The past two games for the Fairfield Lions have been scoring many runs, as they have totaled 27 runs in Southern Hills League play during those two game, as they outscored the Ripley Blue Jays, 11-5 Friday for their fourth league win of the season.
On Thursday, the Lions defeated North Adams 16-0, and added with Friday's 11 runs, they have put themselves one game over the .500 mark in league games and have moved their overall record to 9-5 on the season.
Against the Blue Jays, the Lions scored 10 runs in the first three innings combined, with three runs in the first, four runs in the second and three more runs in third.
Ripley cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth with a five-run inning, but that was all they scored. FHS scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth.
For the game, the Lions tallied 10 hits, and had just two errors. As for the Blue Jays, they finished with four hits, while committing 11 errors.
The Lions were led at the plate by Cody Bennett as he went 2-for-3 with four runs, one RBI and one hit by pitch.
Blake Hildebrant was 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs, and Kyle Carson was 1-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI.
[[In-content Ad]]Zach Cox was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run hit to left field. Cox finished with four RBIs. Cox now has a 14-game hitting streak.
Ryan Bates was 1-for-3 with one run, and Nathan Crabtree was 3-for-4 with two runs. Chase Fulkerson finished with one RBI and a sacrifice fly.
Carson was the winning pitcher for the Lions. Carson, who pitched seven complete innings, allowed five runs (five earned) on four hits and six walks. Carson finished with seven strikeouts.
FHS is scheduled to play in two games tomorrow in Leesburg, starting with a non-league game against East Clinton at 10 a.m., followed by a non-league game against Washington at 2 p.m.
