Lions tie Rockets; defeat Dragons

      LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lions gained a tie on Friday at Fairfield High School, going toe-to-toe with the Fayetteville Rockets for a 1-1 score in what can be described as a physical contest.
      The lone FHS goal was scored by Cody Ferrell with the assist by Wyatt Crothers. The late second half goal came on a corner kick play with Crothers serving the ball from the right corner to an aggressive Fairfield attack. Crothers' service Ferrell with a header, leaving 14:29 in the game.
      Fayetteville's Christian Conner scored first, with the goal coming with 24 minutes remaining as the opening half .
      The first half was full of fouls being called on both Southern Hills League rivals.
      The second half also saw a physical match
      Fayetteville, the reigning SHL champs, attacked the Fairfield net early in the second half, only to be held in check by a strong and consistent Fairfield back line on each challenge.
      Both teams would continue to work at a furious rate to push the ball forward, but both defenses held their ground to end the game.
      Fairfield heads into the annual Highland County Fair break at 2-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 in SHL play.
      The Lions will be back in action on Sept. 14 vs. West Union, Sept. 15
vs. Peebles (SHL match up) and Sept. 17 vs. Lynchburg. The next three FHS games will be home games.

Fairfield 5, West Union 0
      On Friday, Aug. 27 the Lions dominated the West Union Dragons, 5-0 at FHS.
      Stephen Bracus had a hat-trick with three goals, along with Sam Stauffer scoring one goal. Blake Hildebrant also scored a goal for the Lions.
      Assists were credited to: Josh Ball, Dakota Hargrave, Nate Hawkins and Ryan Bates.
      In the game, Fairfield pressured the Dragons for the entire 80 minutes, while playing solid on the defensive end.[[In-content Ad]]
