Lions lose to Astros in rain-shortened non-league game

LEESBURG — Unable to overcome a six-run inning by the East Clinton Astros, the Fairfield Lions lost a rain-shortened five-inning non-league game by a score of 8-2 Saturday morning at FHS.
The Lions fall to 9-6 overall with the loss but stand at 4-3 in Southern Hills League, as they have three league games coming up on the schedule this coming week, starting with a game Tuesday at Fayetteville, followed by a home game Thursday against Whiteoak and a Friday game at Manchester.
As for their loss against East Clinton, the Lions totaled just two hits with Cody Bennett going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Blake Hildebrant going 1-for-3. Sim Jones scored one run, and the 14-game hitting streak of Zach Cox came to an end.
Most of the EC scoring was in the second inning with six runs on three hits and three errors by the Lions. EC added two more runs in the top of the third.
