Lions 2nd, Lady Mustangs 2nd in SHL Track & Field Championships

MANCHESTER — The Fairfield Lions boys track and field team and the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs each were runners-up in the 2012 Southern Hills League Track & Field Championships, Friday at Manchester High School.
In the girls meet, the winner was Eastern Brown with 119 points, followed by LC at 98.50 in second and Whiteoak in third with 96 points. Ripley was fourth with 86.50 points, and West Union was fifth at 62 points. Peebles was sixth with 60 points, followed by Manchester with 48 points and Fairfield with 8 points.
In the girls championship, Whiteoak's Clarissa Johnson won three events. Fairfield's Michael Mangus also was a part of four wins, including three individual events.
The boys SHL champion was Ripley with 140 points, followed by Fairfield with 131 points. LC was third with 121 points, and Eastern Brown was fourth at 82 points. WHS placed fifth with 51 points, followed by West Union in sixth at 34 points, Manchester in seventh with 11 points and Peebles in eighth with five points.
In boys events, the Lions won the 4x800-meter relay event with the team Dustin Willey, John Cain, Blake Hildebrant and Matthew Leach winning with a time of 9:05.2. LC was second at 9:46.6 with the team of Noah Stoltz, Quinn Stoltz, Justin Gray and Jared McLaughlin. RHS was third in the event at 10:12.7.
The Mustangs won the 4x200m relay with Nate Jones, Colt Dunseith, Aaron Collins and Caleb Toller combining for a time of 1:43.5. FHS was second at 1:46.9, and RHS was third at 1:47.9.
Michael Mangus won the 1600m run for the Fairfield Lions with a time of 4:42.8. Also for FHS, Dustin Willey was fourth at 5:21.1 and Shelton Vanwinkle (LC) was sixth at 5:27.2. In eighth was Travis Tracy (WHS) at 5:46.5, followed in ninth by Cody Johnson (LC) at 5:47.3.
Mangus was also the winner of the 800m run with a time of 2:08.9, followed in fourth place by LC's Quinn Stoltz at 2:14.5. Dustin Willey (FHS) was fifth at 2:22.9. In seventh place in the event was Justin Gray (LC) 2:31.9, and in 11th was Joe Isaac (WHS) at 3:29.1.
Mangus won his third event in the 3200m run, as the sophomore finished with a time of 10:31.7, followed by John Cain (FHS) in second at 11:18.2. In fourth was Noah Stoltz (LC) at 11:54.7. Travis Tracy (WHS) was sixth at 12:40.4, and Nicko Rowlands was eighth (LC) at 13:09.8.
The Lions also won the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:01.6 with the team of Mangus, Blake Hildebrant, WiIley and Wyatt Crothers. LC was third (Collins, Zach Pingleton, Colt Dunseith, Caleb Toller) with a time of 4:05.6.
Whiteoak's Leonard Becraft won the discus with a throw of 113-03, followed by Linus Stoltz (LC) at 102-11, Nicko Rowlands (LC) in third at 100-10 and Dustin Fetters (FHS) in fourth at 97-00.
In other boys events, for Highland County athletes, Nate Jones (LC) was third in the 110m hurdles at 20.2, followed in fourth by Cody Feck (WHS) at 20.8 and Zach Brown in fifth at 21.0. In sixth was Brant Huff (FHS) at 21.9, and in eighth was Daniel Miller (WHS) at 23.2.
In the 100m dash, Dunseith (LC) was fourth at 12.4, followed by Becraft (WHS) in fifth at 12.4.
LC was second in the boys 4x100m relay at 50.6 with the team of Nate Jones, Caleb Toller, Brad Stewart and Zach Pingleton. FHS was fourth at 53.7 with the team of Layne Irvin, Chas Webb, Jacob Chamblin and Aaron Lucas.
Pingleton was third in the 400m dash for LC at 59.0, followed by Aaron Collins (LC) at 59.4. Matthew Leach (FHS) was sixth at 1:00.1, and Aaron Lucas (FHS) came in seventh at 1:00.6. Corey Adams (WHS) was 10th at 1:03.7, and Zac Metz (WHS) was 12th at 1:04.0.

Cody Feck (LC) was second in the 300m hurdles at 51.2, followed by Huff (FHS) in third at 52.7 and Brown (LC) in fourth at 54.4. McLaughlin (LC) was seventh at 56.9, and Metz (WHS) was eighth at 57.1.
Dunseith (LC) was third in the 200m dash at 26.0, followed by Miller (WHS) at 27.5.
Becraft (WHS) was second in the high jump at 5-06.00, Leach (FHS) was third at 5-06.00, P.J. Berwanger (LC) came in fourth at 5-04.00, and Chamblin (FHS) finished in fifth at 5-00.00.
Webb (FHS) was second in the long jump at 16-08.50, and Crothers (FHS) 16-07.50 came in third place. Tristen Wilbanks (LC) was fourth at 16-01.50, and Berwanger (LC) was fifth at 16-01.00.
Becraft (WHS) was second in the shot put at 38-04.00, followed by Travis Shaffer (LC) at 33-08.00 for third. Wes Willey (FHS) was fourth at 33-03.50, and Fetters was sixth at 31-03.00. Blaze Sellman (LC) was 11th at 28-07.50.
In the girls events, Morgan Lehr (WHS) was the winner of the 100m hurdles at 18.5, followed by LC's Sawyer Rammel (LC) at 20.2. Miranda Ayers (LC) was fourth at 21.4, and WHS's Sunnie Lehr was seventh at 22.4.
Clarissa Johnson (WHS) was first in the 100m dash at 13.2, with teammate Hope Hicks in fifth at 14.2.
WHS won the girls 4x100m relay with a time of 58.6 with the team of Jessie Gilliland, Morgan Lehr, Sunnie Lehr and Hicks. LC was fifth at 1:04.8 with the team of Cori Lay, Sara Dye, Alyssa Greene and Caylee Tipton.
Johnson (WHS) was also the winner of the girls 300m hurdles at 53.5, followed by Morgan Lehr at 58.6. Hannah Bauer (LC) was seventh at 1:04.6. and Miranda Ayers (LC) came in eighth at 1:07.5.
Johnson won her third event with a victory in the 200m dash at 27.8. Hick (WHS) was fourth at 30.8. Her fourth win came in the girls long jump with a leap of 14-09.00.
In other girls final events, LC was second in the 4x800m relay at 11:59.9 with the team of Danielle Coleman, Mackenzie Stevens, Ginny Gadzinski and Alisa Elam.
WHS was third (2:07.5) in the 4x200m relay with the girls team of Morgan Lehr, Christine Hamilton, Sunnie Lehr and Hope Hicks. LC was fourth in the event at 2:18.9 with the team of Lay, Dye, Greene and Tipton.
In the girls 1600m run, Coleman (LC) was fourth at 6:41.2, followed in fifth by Gadzinski (LC) at 6:44.3 and in sixth by Brenna Simmons (FHS) at 6:52.0.
Gilliland (WHS) was fourth at 1:12.6 in the 400m dash, followed by Stevens (LC) in fifth at 1:14.9, and sixth was Elam (LC) at 1:15.0.
In the 800m run, Elam (LC) ran a time of 2:56.3 for third place.
Gadzinski (LC) was third in the 3200m run at 15:12.6, followed by a fourth-place finish by Simmons (FHS) at 15:21.4. Hannah Bauer (LC) was seventh at 16:43.2.
LC was second in the girls 4x400m relay at 5:15.9 by the team of Stevens, Coleman, Elam and Rammel.
In the girls discus event, Emma Setty (LC) was second at 87-09, followed by Cayla Buchreitz (LC) in third at 77-11. Savannah Johnson (WHS) was sixth at 63-09.
Greene (LC) was fourth in the girls long jump at 4-04.00, and Rammel (LC) was sixth at 4-02.00.
Buchreitz (LC) was fourth in the shot put at 28-05.00, followed by Johnson (WHS) at 27-09.50. Setty was eighth at 25-07.50.
