Lion rally falls short, fall to Warriors

LEESBURG — Though they scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the deficit of the Fairfield Lions was too much to overcome as they fell in a Southern Hills League game to the Eastern Brown Warriors, 8-5 Monday at FHS.
FHS falls to an under .500 mark at 10-11 overall, with an SHL mark of 5-7 this season.
The first run for the Lions came in the bottom of the first, which tied the score at 1-1. Blake Hildebrant began what led to scoring the first run by taking first base after being hit by a pitch. He stole second and third bases, eventually scoring on a base hit by Zach Cox.
The final four FHS runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Scoring runs were Gage Montgomery, Wyatt Crothers, Cody Bennett and Hildebrant, as Hildebrant knocked in Crothers and Bennett with a double.
Eastern's runs came with one run in the top of the first, and they took the lead for good in the top of the third with another run. They added two more runs in the fifth and four in the top half of the seventh, as they totaled 13 hits on the day.
The Lions totaled six hits with Hildebrant leading at 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. He was also hit by a pitch.
[[In-content Ad]]Zach Cox was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk. Joey Wilson finished 1-for-3 with a double and walk, and Crothers was 1-for-3 with one run.
Bennett scored one run and walked twice, while Montgomery scored one run and walked once.
