DODSONVILLE — The second set of the four played on Tuesday evening went to the host Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs, but the match was eventually won by the visiting Peebles Lady Indians.

PHS won the Southern Hills Athletic Conference match three sets to one, with the Lady Indians winning set one (25-10), set three (25-22) and set four (25-22).

LC won the second set by a 32-30 score.

"We are a young team, and it shows at times," LC head coach Mark Faust said. "We don't know how to get over that hump and win. With no seniors, it is tough, but the girls are still learning.

"We've had a lot of injuries, so we've had trouble setting a consistent lineup. The girls are starting to return, and having that daily consistent lineup will start helping."

In that aforementioned second set, it was close throughout, with the score being tied at 21-21, then again at 23 through 30.

[[In-content Ad]]That span of ties, and match point attempts, saw PHS lead at one point by a 23-21 score, only to have LC's Tylar Griffith send the ball off the fingertips of a PHS player, followed by a block at the net by Shelby Marshall for a 23-23 tied score.

Marshall put LC ahead with another point, but it was Annie McFarland of PHS who made a block for a 24-24 score.

Later, LC took a 26-25 lead, but was unable to gain the two-point lead as Kendall Kelly of Peebles tied it all up at 26.

LC regained the lead, once again, this time with PHS hitting their own side of the net. LC couldn't take home the set victory just yet as they also hit their own side of the net on a serve to make it a 27-27 score.

The Lady Mistangs for the third straight time took the advantage, this one with a tip at the net by Kylie Camp, but the Lady Indians answered by tying the score at 28.

It was LC who took a 29-28 lead after PHS hit their own net, and the Lady Indians again had the answer for a fourth consecutive time. The match-tying point was scored by McFarland, who bounced the ball off an LC player for a 29-all score.

Good play at the top of the net by Camp and Marshall put LC ahead for the fifth time at 30-29, and PHS was there to tie the score at 30-30 with their own block at the net from Sydney McDaniels.

Finally, the dramatic (and long) set ended with LC taking a 31-30 advantage with PHS hitting the ball out of play, and a block from Vanessa Thiel gave LC the long-awaited two-point lead needed for the set win at 32-30.

LC battled tough in sets three and four, but lost them by a combined six points, by equal scores of 25-22.

The loss sends LC to 1-6 overall, with a SHAC mark of 0-4.
