LC jumps ahead for overtime victory

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs won for the 10th time this season on Monday evening as they held on for a tough 50-47 overtime win against Peebles for a Southern Hills Athletic League victory.
In the overtime period, LC (6-2, 10-2) outscored PHS 6-3, with OT points from Morgan Fittro, Madysyn Creighton and Laney Lewis.
Lewis finished with a game-high 26 points as the senior totaled a double-double by adding 15 rebounds. The senior added five steals and one block. Lewis was 14-of-21 from the free-throw line.
As for regulation, LC trailed 9-7 in the first frame but rallied back with a 19-point second frame, while holding PHS to four points for a halftime advantage of 26-13.

In the third, PHS had a 19-point third frame, while holding LC to seven points in the third for a score of 33-32 with LC in the lead. In the fourth, PHS led 12-11.
As for the LC scoring, Fittro totaled three points, as did Creighton. Little totaled two points. Shelby Stewart added 10 points, including three 3-pointers, and Emma Setty scored five.
Defensively, Fittro added four points, and Little collected seven rebounds. Sarah Rosselott totaled two rebounds, and Stewart added four rebounds. Setty finished the game with five rebounds.
For the game, the Lady Mustangs totaled 37 rebounds (13 offensive) with 10 steals, three assists and two blocks. LC ended the game 17-of-23 from the free-throw line.
LC will play again on Thursday, Jan. 10 as they will host Manchester.
