LC gains big SHAC win over Lady Devils

SEAMAN — In what can be called a must-win game, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs went to a hostile environment with a two-game losing skid, one loss behind the North Adams Lady Green Devils … and promptly erased all that was against them, by defeating the Green Devils, 46-31.
The Thursday night Southern Hills Athletic Conference win by LC not only gives them eight league wins, but places a third league loss on North Adams, who are now 8-3 in the SHAC, while LC is 7-3 in league games this season.
"This is a huge win for us, especially coming off the last two losses," LC head coach Whitney Lewis said. "We handled the pressure in those moments when we had to.
"Everyone stepped up and played big (Thursday). This was a great win for us, period."
Earlier in the season at LCHS, the Lady Green Devils defeated host LC, 48-36, but the roles were reversed in this second meeting, but not following the first quarter as LC trailed 9-8 at NAHS.
In the second, LC doubled the output of NA in the eight minutes with a 12-6 quarter, taking a halftime lead of 20-15.

In the second, Madysyn Creighton scored two points for the Lady Mustangs, while Laney Lewis scored eight and Emma Setty added two for the 12-point second frame.
Then LC led the scoring in the final two quarters, as they totaled 26 points, compared to 16 points by the host Lady Green Devils, as LC added 10 points in the third and 16 points in the fourth.
Of the 26 points in the second half, Lewis scored eight, including a six-point fourth quarter. Also in the second half, Morgan Fittro added four points in the fourth, and Ali Little scored four points in the second half.
Sarah Rosselott added six points in the final two quarters, and Setty scored four points in the third.
Lewis led the game for LC with 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with six steals, four blocked shots and four assists.
LC ended the game with 20 rebounds, while committing 18 turnovers.
Setty and Rosselott each added eight points for the game.
LC plays again on Monday, Jan. 28 as they host Eastern Brown in their final home game of the season, as it will be Parents Night.
