GEORGETOWN — Unable to overcome their own errors and late inning runs by their opponent, the Fairfield Lions lost for the second straight day, this time falling to the Georgetown G-Men 7-2 Friday at GHS in non-league play.
The Lions (11-13) scored their two runs in the first and second innings with Quintin Schaffer (who drew a walk) scoring on a ground out to second by Zach Cox in the first inning.
Gage Montgomery, who led off with a single, scored his run on a base hit by Dylan Rohde in the second inning for the second FHS run.
Georgetown scored their runs with one in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth for their seven total runs.
[[In-content Ad]]For the game the Lions committed seven errors, including five in the third through fifth innings combined, as five of the Georgetown runs were unearned runs.
FHS totaled five hits with five players combining for the hits.
Cody Bennett was 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. Kyle Carson was 1-for-4 and Montgomery was 1-for-2 with one run and one walk. Joey Wilson went 1-for-3 with a double and Rohde was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Cox finished with one RBI and John Crabtree was hit by a pitch. Cox was charged with the loss as he pitched three innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks, with two strikeouts.
Rohde also pitched three innings for the Lions, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk, with two strikeouts.
FHS might add another regular season game on Monday at 5 p.m. as they are in talks to host the Huntington Huntsmen. They will host a tournament game on Wednesday with Sciotoville East visiting for the sectional game at 5 p.m.
