Larrick tosses 1-hitter in Lady Lion win over Cedarville

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions defeated the Cedarville Lady Indians, 12-2 in a non-league game at Fairfield High School, Wednesday.
The Lady Lions played a solid game this afternoon but committed an uncharacteristic four errors on the day that led to two unearned runs.
Offensively, FHS (2-0) pounded out 12 hits, and for the second consecutive day, every starting Lady Lion had a hit.
Lauren Larrick threw a one-hitter on the mound and blasted three doubles at the plate. Earning the win in the circle, Larrick walked two batters and struck out 10.
FHS scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The inning began with Kortney Paris and Courtney Huff hitting back-to-back singles. Shelby Smithson followed with a single to left field, driving in both runners. Whitney Hanenkrat drew a walk, and Larrick followed with an RBI double to the fence in right-centerfield.
The Cedarville Lady Indians (0-3) scored an unearned run in the top of the second inning to make the score 5-1.
FHS added a run in the bottom of the third inning, with Hanenkrat reaching first safely on an error and Larrick doubling to the fence in left-centerfield to drive in Hanenkrat.
The Lady Lions took a commanding 12-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Taylor Butler led off the fourth with a single, followed by singles off the bats of Cynnamon Sova-Davy and Kaitlin Evans. Paris grounded out to drive in a run. Hanenkrat singled to drive in a run, and Larrick doubled for the third time over the centerfielder’s head to drive in the final run.
Cedarville scored another unearned run in the top of the fifth inning, and the only hit of the afternoon for Cedarville, but FHS closed the door to seal the victory.
FHS travels to Dodsonville Thursday to take on Southern Hills League opponent Lynchburg Clay at 5 p.m.
