Lady Wildcats advance to sectional final

MANCHESTER — It has been one of the better weeks of the season for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, as they have won twice, including Wednesday as they defeated the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 17-10 in a Division IV SE District Sectional semifinal matchup at MHS.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead early with three runs in the top of the first and then a 4-0 lead after their half of the second inning.
With MHS scoring two runs in the bottom of the second, the Lady 'Cats responded with a four-run third and eight-run fourth for a lead of 16-2.
The No. 7 seeded Lady Greyhounds kept the game going with six runs in the bottom of the fifth, but WHS added one run in the top of the sixth. MHS didn't rally enough in their half of the sixth with just two runs. Both teams were scoreless in the seventh.
Winning the game in the circle was freshman Kiley Sosby, who pitched seven innings. She allowed 10 runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks, while striking out 10 of the 37 batters she faced.
At the plate for WHS, they were led by Sosby, Molly Oliver and Caitlyn Arledge with three hits each. Sosby went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Oliver finished 3-for-4 with one run and one stolen base. Arledge was 3-for-5 with one run.
Morgan Miller was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks. Jayde Parr finished 2-for-5 with four runs and teammate Mikayla Burns was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and one walk.
Kendra Parker walked once, and Mickey Wescott had one hit and one run. Kylie Clark totaled one hit, two runs and one RBI. Kelsey Oliver also had one hit, along with one run and one walk.
For the game WHS totaled 16 hits, nine RBIs and five walks.
Now the No. 10 seeded Lady Wildcats will face Sciotoville East in the sectional final on Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Sciotoville East High School. At the time of tournament draw Sciotoville was 19-1 overall, as they are the No. 2 seed.

On Monday, May 7 in their final regular season game, the Lady 'Cats defeated Southeastern (Ross) 9-1 in non-league play.
WHS did all their scoring in the third through fifth innings with a six-run third, a two-run fourth and one-run in the fifth.
The Lady 'Cats finished with three hits as Sosby went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Miller was 1-for-2 with two walks, one run and two RBIs.
Molly Oliver forced one walk with one RBI, and Parr scored one run against SEHS. Burns walked twice and scored two runs, while Arledge scored one run with one RBI and one walk. Wescott walked twice.
