WASHINGTON C.H. — The McClain Lady Tigers had their chances and kept the game within reach, but one bad inning kept them in search of their first South Central Ohio League victory, this time falling to the Washington Lady Blue Lions, 10-2, Wednesday at WSHS.
McClain (0-5, 1-5) scored their runs with one in the sixth and one in the seventh, but it wasn't enough, as Washington led 2-0 after the first inning and 4-0 by the time the fourth inning was complete.
McClain in the sixth inning, down by four runs, scored one run as Caitlyn Lovett crossed home plate on an error. The Lady Tigers loaded the bases with two outs, but a groundout back to the pitcher left the bases full for MHS.
"We've struggled all year to string hits together with runners in scoring position," MHS head coach Ed Bolender said. "We just couldn't get the big hit.
"That's the story of the year … we can't cash in on the big inning."
MHS loaded the bases with Kelsey Smith, Valerie Caldwell and Kenzie Anderson.

Alli Willett suffered the loss. In six innings, she gave up six hits. At the plate, Willett had a double and one run.
"Alli pitched well, and she deserved a better fate," Bolender said.
