Lady Tigers top East Clinton

The McClain Lady Tigers shot lights out Wednesday evening in their South Central Ohio League contest, traveling to East Clinton High School and returning to Highland County with a big win, by defeating the host Lady Astros, 81-34.
The Lady Tigers (5-2, 10-4) scored the first points of the league game with a bucket from Katy Unger, and it was smooth sailing from there on out.
"I'm proud of each and every one of our players … it's hard to point out one kid," MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. "Everyone took advantage of their opportunities, and we knocked down some big shots."
EC responded with a free throw, then it was all MHS as the Lady Tigers exploded offensively with a 17-0 run, with MHS eventually leading 21-3 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
The second quarter was the same story, with the Lady Tigers scoring 21 more points compared to East Clinton's 12 points in the eight-minute frame.
The Lady Tigers went into the locker room with a lead of 42-15 at halftime, as junior Shania Massie outscored the Lady Astros in the first half and in the game with 25 first-half points and a total of 33 points in the game, as she played just two-and-a half quarters. Massie also had nine rebounds.

In the third quarter, it was the same song, different verse for the Lady Tigers, as senior post player Tara Karnes scored the first bucket of the half.
A slew of Lady Tigers caught fire, as every player on McClain's roster hit the scoring column.
Freshmen Taylor Polley's stingy defense gave her eight steals in the win, while she also collected six assists and netted 10 points. Fellow freshmen Bethany Montgomery totaled 11 points, and junior Sarah Thompson scored seven points.
Karnes ended with six points, and Unger tallied four. Lauren Rayburn scored three points for the Lady Tigers, while Alli Willett, Lexie Barton, Sydney Barton, Malea Montavon and Caitlyn Lovett each scored two points.
MHS shot 33-of-59 from the field for 55 percent, finishing 27-of-48 from two-point range (56 percent). They were 6-of-11 from three-point range (54.5 percent).
The Lady Tigers connected 12-of-19 from the charity stripe (63 percent) and owned the boards, out-rebounding EC, 39-22.
MHS will play again on Saturday when they host the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons in SCOL play. JV starts at noon.
