Lady Tigers take out Vikings

     BAINBRIDGE - The night cap for the Paint Valley Lady ‘Cats Classic didn’t disappoint the fans of the McClain Lady Tigers, as MHS moved to 2-0 overall with a 60-52 victory over Vinton County at Paint Valley High School Saturday night.

     The Lady Tigers (2-0) scored 32 points in the first half, 16 in each quarter to take a 32-24 lead at the end of the first half, as they kept the Lady Vikings to first half quarter totals of 14 and 10.

     Each team netted 18 and 10 points each, in the both the third and fourth quarters.

     McClain senior Cortney Hyer led all Lady Tigers with a team-high 17 points. Hyer made six baskets from the floor, including two big 3-pointers. The senior was 3 of 4 from the foul line.

     MHS junior Chrissy Cobb played well on both sides of the court, as she finished with 15 points, including one 3-point shot, and six two-point field goals. The junior also led MHS in steals with five.

     Jenna Perie, a MHS sophomore, scored 12 points, as she was the third Lady Tiger to score in double digits. The sophomore was 4 of 7 from the free-throw line, and sank four two-point baskets. Perie also led the Lady Tigers in rebounds with 12.

     Senior Megan Saylor netted eight points, finishing 4 of 5 from the foul line. Fellow senior Shelby Buck sank one 3-pointer, finishing the non-league game with five points. Buck also had four steals. Senior Kate Hammond, who grabbed seven rebounds, finished with four points and sophomore Kate Crabtree finished with two points, going a perfect 2 of 2 in free throw shooting.

     The Lady Tigers out rebounded the Lady Vikings 37-27, and gained a total of 22 steals. The Lady Vikings finished with 28 turnovers, MHS had 18.

     Tori Dixon, of VCHS, scored her 1,000th point Saturday night, finishing with a game-high 18.

     MHS will play again Tuesday as they host their first home game of the season, facing cross-county and South Central Ohio League opponent Hillsboro. HHS currently stands at 0-2.
