Lady Tigers sweep Wilmington on Claws for a Cause night

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers played for Claws for a Cause on Tuesday night, and also defended their home court, defeating the visiting Wilmington Lady Hurricane in three sets.
The win at McClain Gym gives the Lady Tigers an overall record of 9-10 on the season and six wins in the South Central Ohio League.
But as the Lady Tigers were playing for a cause, MHS head coach Emma Gall spoke about what the event is for.
"Claws for a Cause is a way we raise money for cancer survivors and those currently fighting cancer," she said. "It is an organization locally, and it helps benefit the Greenfield community."
As for the game itself, the Lady Tigers won their sets by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-11, winning each set by no less than 13 points against their SCOL counterpart.

"This was a big win on a night where we were playing for the Claws for the Cause," Gall said. "I'm happy with the effort, and we played well. Our serving was good, and our passing was improved. We had good communication, and I was really pleased with that aspect of the game.
"We weren't on a roller coaster (Tuesday). It was a straight line, and that was good to have."
In the second set, the Lady Tigers began with a 6-0 lead, with help from serves by Sarah Thompson and one strong point at the net by Kelcey Smith.
Later, Jhaela Coleman made it 7-1, and then MHS scored points from three straight aces by Smith. Sydney Barton scored consecutive points with pinpoint spikes on the WHS side of the court to put the Lady Tigers ahead 13-3 in the third set.
Later, Smith had another point at the net, and Malea Montavon put MHS ahead 18-8. The third set and the match ended with MHS scoring the final four points, including an ace by Smith for the 23rd point and the final two points from Barton.
"All the girls played well," Gall said. "Savannah Anderson had a good game in the back row for us, and Jhaela played well at the net."
MHS will be at Chillicothe on Thursday in SCOL play.
