GREENFIELD — It was one of those nights, so to speak, for the McClain Lady Tigers Monday night at McClain High School. Unable to put together consistent offense in any of the four quarters, the Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Warriors, 47-18.

The Lady Tigers have lost three of their last four games, falling to Lynchburg-Clay last Monday and Miami Trace last Thursday. Their lone win in their last four games came against Zane Trace last Tuesday.

This Monday was an entirely different story, coming off an emotional game against the Lady Panthers in their most recent game where the Lady Tigers fell two games back in the South Central Ohio League. Against Eastern Brown (9-3), the Lady Tigers didn't play with the same sense of urgency or intensity as they did five days prior.

In the first half, the Lady Tigers were outscored 30-6, scoring four points in the second quarter, as the Lady Warriors scored points with MHS in their zone defense.

"They (EB) struggled against the zone in a game in the Brown County tournament. Our man defense, from the way we played it last Thursday from the way we played it tonight, was almost nonexistent," MHS head coach Dennis Overstake said. "We had no movement whatsoever, so it didn't matter what we played."

The Lady Tigers shot 3-of-16 in the first half and 4-of-18 in the second half for an overall percentage of 20.6 percent from the field. In contrast, EB finished 10-of-24 shooting in the first half and 6-of-16 in the final two quarters. They shot 40 percent from the field for the game.

"We just kind of stood around in the first half, and didn't create anything," Overstake said. "The (weekend) practices I thought we did well, we worked on things, but physically we just didn't show up. It looked like we weren't in (the game) mentally, too."

On Monday games the last two weeks, MHS is 0-2.

"It was almost a carbon copy of last week at Lynchburg-Clay," Overstake said. "We had no intensity. We had nothing drive-wise to get us going. We've talked about leadership from that Monday night, and it was better last Tuesday, and a lot better against Miami Trace. But, you can't just pick and choose who you want to play ball against … we didn't even make effort to give them (EB) worth playing for."

The Lady Tigers' first half scoring consisted of four points by Jenna Perie and two points from Taylor Faulconer. In the first quarter, MHS trailed 13-0 with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter. They broke up the 13-0 run by the Lady Warriors with two points from Perie.

MHS scored the first four points of the second quarter when Perie sank an inside basket and Faulconer scored with 6:50 left in the first half, making the score 21-6.

Perie led MHS in scoring with six points. Kate Crabtree scored four, while Faulconer, Felicity Peabody, Cierra Landrum and Kaitlyn Faulconer each scored two points.

In the second half, MHS scored 12 points, with their largest scoring quarter being eight points in the fourth frame.

Perie and Crabtree scored the third-quarter points of MHS. In the fourth, Crabtree, Peabody (two free throws), Landrum and Kaitlyn Faulconer all added points.

McClain's leading scorer, Chrissy Cobb, was defended heavily by the Lady Warriors, as she had five rebounds and one assist. Normal starter Sammy Rooks missed the game due to injury. Frankie Wise had one rebound and one steal.

MHS had 22 rebounds (EB had 27 rebounds), but the first quarter was too much for them to battle back from. Leading EB in rebounding was Burns with eight.

Eastern's aforementioned 13-point run to start the game was compiled by Allison Prine, Amber Yockey and Chrsitina Burns. Also scoring in the first for EB was Shayla Black with a 3-pointer to make the score 18-2.

EB added 12 more points to their total in the second frame, with Black sinking her second 3-pointer with 2:22 left in the quarter.

Yockey and Prine led EB in scoring, with Prine scoring a game-high 14 points, including nine in the first half.

MHS was unable to stop the EB attack in the second half, with EB outscoring them, 17-12.

Prine scored five points in the third, with Yockey making two free throws in the same quarter. Fourth-quarter scoring for EB included points from Andrea Neu, Leeza Rickey (3-pointer), Maria Johnson and Burns.

Another big factor was each team's free-throw shooting. EB was 10-of-12 for 83 percent, and MHS went 4-of-8 for 50 percent.

"There is nothing to take from this ballgame," Overstake said. "We can leave it in the locker room or on the practice floor because we are just wasting our time. We have to take what we work on into games."

The loss drops MHS to 7-4 overall. They are 3-2 in the SCOL.

In the JV game, EB defeated MHS 32-26.

The Lady Tigers will have an opportunity to break their two-game skid on Friday when they host the Washington Lady Blue Lions with SCOL implications on the line.

GAME NOTES: MHS was 0-of-6 in shooting free-throws and 7-of-34 overall from the field … EB was 16-of-40 shooting (5-of-11 from the 3-point line) … MHS had 15 turnovers (EB had eight) … Crabtree had a steal and jumper during the fourth quarter … This is the second non-league loss for MHS … Perie took a charge … MHS had one assist.[[In-content Ad]]
