Lady Tigers gain revenge, defeat Lady Blue Lions

GREENFIELD - The McClain Lady Tigers took on a tough Washington Lady Blue Lion team Friday night and gained a bit of revenge from earlier in the season, as they held on to defeat the Lady Blue Lions 39-38 at McClain High School, after a Washington basket at the buzzer was waived off by the officials.
It was a one possession game in the opening quarter as MHS trailed 7-5 after the first eight minutes ticked off the clock.
The Lady Tigers weren't trailing after the second quarter ended as they jumped out to a 17-14 advantage with a 12-point second frame.
MHS (10-2, 15-3) continued to keep up their pace offensively with a 16-point effort in the third, but Washington didn't fall back too much, scoring 14 in the same quarter, equaling their first half output.
The Lady Tigers led 33-28 after 24 minutes of action.
Washington rallied, but not enough, in the final frame outscoring MHS 10-6.
McClain was led by senior Cortney Hyer, who earned the game-high in scoring with 12 points, connecting four times with 3-point shots.
MHS senior Kate Hammond finished with eight points, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Hammond connected once from the 3-point line.
MHS seniors Shelby Buck and Megan Saylor each earned five points in the South Central Ohio League victory.
Sophomore Jenna Perie earned four points, followed by junior Chrissy Cobb with three and sophomore Kate Crabtree with two.
MHS shot 13 of 34 from the field for 38 percent, while WSHS finished 13 of 38 for 34 percent.
Washington (6-5, 10-9) was led by Knisley with 11 points. Knisley sank three 3-pointers. Amanda Pendergraft followed with 10 points, including one 3-pointer.
Lauryn Robinson netted eight points for the Lady Blue Lions.
Also scoring for Washington were: Catie Chrisman (4), Amber Frazier (3) and Guyett (2).
MHS gained 18 rebounds, but Washington led with 25 boards. The Lady Blue Lions committed 11 turnovers, with MHS being charged with eight.
The win lifts MHS to 15-3 overall, 10-2 in the SCOL. WSHS drops to 10-9 overall, 6-5 in the SCOL.
MHS will play again this Saturday as they will face Zane Trace at ZTHS.
