Lady Tigers gain 2nd win of season

The McClain Lady Tigers gained their second win of the season Saturday afternoon as they defeated the East Clinton Lady Astros, 47-40 at ECHS.

McClain (2-2, 2-6) led 18-7 after the first two quarters as they scored nine points in each of those quarters, while their defense held EC to three points in the first and four points in the second.


[[In-content Ad]]In the third, MHS outscored the host Lady Astros 17-10, and in the fourth, EC rallied for a 23-12 frame as this was the fifth game in seven days for MHS.

MHS was 10-of-21 from the free-throw line in the fourth, while EC was 9-of-12 in the same span.

EC falls to 2-4 overall.

Leading the Lady Tigers in scoring were Shania Massie with 19 points and Tara Karnes with 15. Massie made the lone 3-pointer for MHS.

In the first quarter, both Massie and Karnes each scored nine points.

Also scoring for MHS were Alli Willett with four points, Katy Unger with three and Sydney Barton with one.

MHS was 14-of-30 from the free-throw line, and EC was 13-of-29 for the game from the stripe.

Leading EC was Beth Huffman with 16 points, followed by Jessica Bond with 10 points.

The Lady Tigers will play again on Wednesday, Dec. 19 when they host the Washington Lady Blue Lions. On Thursday, Dec. 20 MHS will face Whiteoak in the 8th Annual Highland County Girls Basketball Shootout at HHS, starting at 6 p.m.

EC will next play on Wednesday, Dec. 19 when they host Miami Trace.
