Lady Tigers fall in OT at MPHS

The McClain Lady Tigers took the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles to the brink of defeat Wednesday at MPHS, but foul troubles and being held scoreless in overtime gave MHS their fourth South Central Ohio League loss of the season by a 55-45 score.
McClain (3-4, 5-8) were the leaders following the first frame at 10-8, but MP outscored the Lady Tigers, 10-8 in the second for an 18-17 halftime advantage.
MP (5-2, 12-2) broke away by a small margin in the third, outscoring the visitors 15-9 for a 33-26 lead.
In the fourth, MHS forced the overtime with a 19-12 quarter. As for the OT period, MHS was held scoreless as both Tara Karnes and Shania Massie both were fouled out in the previous frame, and MP glided to a 10-0 quarter and the SCOL win.[[In-content Ad]]
Karnes led all scorers with a game-high 17 points, followed by Katy Unger with eight. Massie and Sarah Thompson each totaled six points. Lauren Rayburn scored four points, while Sydney Barton and Alli Willett each added two points.
Casey Knisley led MP with 14 points and Kelsey Woodyard followed with 12 points, as Woodyard also fouled out in the fourth frame. Savannah Nelson also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Also for MP, Abby Finney scored nine, Macy McCollister added seven and Kaylin Dill scored two points in the win. From the three-point line, McCollister, Finney, Woodyard and Ames all made a 3-pointer, while MHS was shutout from beyond the arc.
From the free-throw line, MP was 21-of-29 (72 percent), and the Lady Tigers went 9-of-18 (50 percent). MP totaled 19 fouls and 15 turnovers, while MHS had 18 turnovers and 21 fouls.
MHS will play again on Jan. 12 as they travel to Miami Trace for an SCOL matchup. MP plays again on Jan. 12 when they host the Washington Lady Blue Lions.
