Lady Tigers fall to Miami Trace

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers are in the midst of rebuilding their team during a very tough stretch starting the season. Saturday night was one of those tough games for MHS as they lost their South Central Ohio League opener to the Miami Trace Panthers, 64-42 at MHS.
The beginning of the game didn't fare well for the host Lady Tigers as they totaled seven points, while MT put up 16 points for a nine-point first-quarter advantage.
In the second, MT (1-0, 4-0) outscored MHS 15-11 for a halftime lead of 31-18.
MHS (0-1, 0-2) improved their scoring in the third with their best quarter scoring of the night with 13, but the visitors answered with a 17-point frame. In the fourth, the Lady Panthers sealed the win by outscoring MHS by six points in the final eight minutes at 17-11.
Lady Tiger sophomore Shania Massie led all scorers with 18 points with four two-point field goals and one 3-pointer and was 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Junior Tara Karnes scored nine points, and Katy Unger (also a junior) totaled eight points. Unger was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Lauren Rayburn finished with three points (a three-pointer). Sophomores Sarah Thompson and Sydney Barton each scored two points.
For MT, leading the way was Deidre McKay, a senior, with 15 points, followed by Ariana Mabra (a junior) with 11 points. Josie Cobb and Abby Schwenk (both juniors) each totaled eight points. Ashley Henry made the lone MT 3-pointer and totaled seven points.
In the game, MHS was 14-of-18 from the free-throw line, while MT was 9-of-14. MHS totaled 21 turnovers and 14 fouls, and MT had 18 fouls and 11 turnovers.
From the field, MHS was 13-of-40 (43 percent), and MT was 27-of-54 for 50 percent.
The Lady Tigers play again on Wednesday, Dec. 5 as they host Adena. MT plays again on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Washington.
