Lady Tigers fall to Ironladies

JACKSON — The McClain Lady Tigers were unable to make their shot attempts from the field, and that resulted in their fourth loss of the season Wednesday night. An inability to connect from the field led to a 45-28 defeat to the one-loss Jackson Ironladies in non-league play.

McClain (9-4) just couldn't get in-sync with their shooting Wednesday, finishing 11-of-45 for 24 percent from the field, including zero 3-pointers in the game.

This was the first loss for the Lady Tigers in their past seven games, as this loss to Jackson snaps a six-game winning streak. McClain's last loss came on Dec. 14 at Washington.

Jackson (14-1), on the other hand, shot 42 percent from the field (19-of-45) including three 3-pointers.

It was just one of those nights for the Lady Tigers.

The game was close on the scoreboard after the first quarter, with MHS trailing 11-8 after eight minutes, followed with a 10-5 second frame by JHS. MHS trailed at the half, 21-13.

Then the third quarter came, and the Lady Tigers couldn't stop the home team from scoring. JHS outscored the Lady Tigers, 20-8. MHS won the final frame at 7-4.

Freshman Shania Massie led MHS with 10 points, including two free throws. Jenna Perie followed with eight points (four free throws). Also scoring for MHS was Sammy Rooks with six points, and Taylor Faulconer with four.

MHS was 6-of-11 (55 percent) from the free-throw line, and JHS was 4-of-9 for 44 percent.

Leading all scorers was Jackson's Madison Ridout with 14 points. She made one 3-pointer, along with five two-point baskets and one free throw.

MHS will be back in South Central Ohio League play this Saturday night (Jan. 28) when they host the Washington Lady Blue Lions. In the SCOL, MHS is 5-2 and WCH is 6-2.

GAME NOTES: JHS made three 3-pointers … MHS had 23 rebounds, 13 fouls and 15 turnovers … JHS committed seven fouls (two in first half), grabbed 25 rebounds and had 21 turnovers.
