Lady Tigers dominate Miami Trace in road win

Lead Summary

The Highland County Press-

The McClain Lady Tigers are just one game away from finding out if they will win their first South Central Ohio League championship since 1992, or their first conference title of any sort since 2003.

Wednesday's 48-28 win over host Miami Trace sets up a scenario where a win on Saturday against Highland County rival Hillsboro guarantees McClain no less than a share of the SCOL championship with Chillicothe.

Both MHS and CHS are 11-2 in the SCOL. The win on Wednesday puts the Lady Tigers at 17-3 overall.

Chillicothe plays Wilmington on Saturday, and a loss by the Lady Cavs and a win by MHS would give MHS the championship. Of course, if both teams win or lose their respective games Saturday, then the league championship will be shared.

As for the play of MHS on Wednesday night, they didn't get off to the most productive of starts, trailing 9-6 after the first quarter, but they managed to rebound with a 13-6 second frame to take a 19-15 halftime lead.

[[In-content Ad]]In the second half, the Lady Tigers returned the favor of the first frame and then some by outscoring the Lady Panthers, 14-4, and then in the final eight minutes they won the quarter, 15-9.

Three Lady Tigers finished in double figures with Malea Montavon leading the way with 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.

Taylor Polley and Shania Massie each scored 14 points, with Polley collecting seven steals and two assists. Massie had six steals, two assists and one blocked shot.

Polley and Massie each made two 3-pointers.

Sarah Thompson and Beth Montgomery each scored two points, with Montgomery having five rebounds.

The Lady Tigers were 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.

With the loss, MT falls to 6-12 overall and 4-9 in the SCOL.
