Lady Tigers defend home field; defeat London

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers continued to add victories to their overall record on Wednesday, defeating the London Lady Red Raiders, 7-2 in Greenfield.

MHS, who are 3-0 in the South Central Ohio League with the win over LHS, now stand at 6-1 overall this season.

As for their hitting, Cierra Landrum was a perfect 3-for-3 with one walk. The lead-off hitter scored all four times she reached the bases, totaling 16 bases on the day.

The win in the circle also went to Landrum. Landrum went seven innings in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and one walk. Landrum finished with six strikeouts.

"I am really proud of our defense and pitching," MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. "This was Cierra's third game in a row, and I thought it was her best outing yet.

"Our defense made some tremendous plays. I like the focus that we are playing with right now."

Shania Massie followed with a 3-for-4 day, tallying one RBI and two runs. Jenna Perie was 1-for-2 with four RBIs, including two sacrifice flies.

Also gaining hits for MHS were Morgan Dettwiller, Emily Sterling and Brittany Mullikin.

In the first, the Lady Tigers scored one run with Landrum singling to start the MHS half of the inning, and she scored on a ground out to short by Perie.

The second inning turned into three runs for the Lady Tigers with Ali Willett forcing a one-out walk, as did Landrum, putting two runners in the bases. Massie doubled to score Willett, and Perie followed with a base hit, scoring Landrum. The third run of the inning crossed the plate with Massie scoring on a ground out to third by Dettwiller.

MHS added another run in the fourth with Landrum taking first with a lead-off single. She scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Perie.

The final two MHS runs scored in the bottom of the sixth with Landrum and Massie crossing home plate. Landrum scored on an error, and Massie scored on a sacrifice fly to left field.

London's scoring came with one run in the first and one run in the third, as the Lady Red Raiders finished with six hits.
