Lady Tigers continue to stay undefeated in SCOL; run-rule CM

CLARKSVILLE — It was another big game for the McClain Lady Tigers, as they added two more home runs and another South Central Ohio League win to their totals, defeating the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons, 13-1 Wednesday at CMHS.
MHS (5-0, 9-3) had home runs from Shania Massie (her fifth of the season) and Brittany Mullikin as each batter finished with three hits, as Massie was 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBIs and one walk. Mullikin was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run.
Also tallying three hits was Cierra Landrum at 3-for-5 on the day, scoring three runs and collecting 3 RBIs. Another three-hit day came from the bat of Jenna Perie, who was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Alli Willett was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Kate Crabtree was 2-for-3 with two runs, one walk and one RBI. Morgan Dettwiller had one hit and one RBI, and Katy Unger also had one hit and one run.
As for the scoring of MHS, in the first MHS scored four runs, getting off to a strong start, followed by two runs in the fourth inning. They added two more runs in the fifth and five more in the top of the sixth for the 13-run total.
"I thought jumping out to a 4-0 lead was key," MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. "Anytime you put pressure on your opponent right out of the gate, you are in good shape.
"We were missing our starting third baseman (Sasha Lawwell) because of a death in her family. We played for her and her family."
Massie's first inning home run, a laser line drive over the fence, was a two-run home run. In the same first inning, Mullikin had a two-run single. In the first, MHS totaled five hits.
[[In-content Ad]]In the fourth, Perie and Crabtree each had an RBI, and in the fifth, Massie and Mullikin collected RBIs, as Mullikin's home run was a solo home run, flying over the fence for her second of the season.
The sixth inning saw Landrum tally a three-run single, and other RBIs were from Perie and Mullikin, as MHS had a six-hit sixth inning.
McClain's winning pitcher was Landrum, who pitched all six innings of the run-rule game, allowing one run in the third inning (one earned) on five hits and two walks. She struck out eight batters, including the side in the sixth inning.
"I thought our defense was spectacular, and Cierra kept their hitters off-balance all night," Haines said. "When I think some of these girls can't impress me anymore, they find ways to continue to impress me. We are making adjustments better then any team I have coached."
MHS will play again Thursday, as they host Blanchester in non-league play.
