Lady Tigers clinch no less than share of SCOL title; defeat London

LONDON — For the second consecutive season, one way or another the McClain Lady Tigers will be a South Central Ohio League softball champion, as they clinched no less than a share of the league title Monday, defeating the London Lady Red Raiders, 2-0 at LHS.
MHS, last season's SCOL champion with one league loss at 11-1, have even loftier goals, as they have three league games remaining in their quest to stay undefeated in the league, as they are currently 9-0 in the league and 16-3 overall.
The Lady Tigers will go for the outright league title on Wednesday when they travel to face the Washington Lady Blue Lions.
"I'm really proud of how the girls played," MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. "Nothing bothers this team, and (Monday) they outlasted another windy day in Madison County.
"I'm happy we clinched a share of the title, but the girls want more. They aren't satisfied with just a share, and they will continue to keep playing at the level they are at."
The Lady Tigers scored their two runs by taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning and adding one more in the fifth inning.
[[In-content Ad]]The first run scored with Cierra Landrum rounding the bases and scoring on a ground out by Shania Massie. Landrum took first base on a error.
In the fifth inning, Alli Willett singled and scored on a passed ball with Landrum at the plate.
MHS finished with nine total hits, with Massie, Jenna Perie and Willett each tallying two hits. Kate Crabtree, Emily Sterling and Sasha Lawwell each had one hit.
The win in the circle was credited to Landrum, who pitched a seven-inning shutout against LHS (1-9). Landrum allowed no runs on three hits and no walks. She struck out eight batters.
"This was Cierra's best game of the season." Haines said.
