The McClain Lady Tigers ended their season in a tough way on Saturday afternoon, losing to the reigning Division III State Champion and No. 1 seeded Westfall Lady Mustangs, 14-3.

In the Division III SE District Sectional Final contest, it was McClain who got everything started off strong, using some of the momentum they gained in their sectional semifinal win (a game they rallied to win 17-16) with a three-run first inning.

Savannah Anderson led off the game with a base hit, followed by Shania Massie taking first on an infield error. From there, it was Sarah Thompson who put MHS ahead with a three-run home run.

MHS added a couple more base runners in the first, but no more runs would cross the plate for the Lady Tigers the remainder of the game. In fact, the Lady Tigers were held hitless after the first inning.

As for the victorious Lady Mustangs, they totaled 13 hits to move on to the district round, including four home runs, two in the fourth inning.

Westfall scored one run in the first inning and followed that with another run in the second. They took the lead for good in the fourth with a seven-run, 11 at-bat inning.

In the fifth, the hosts added another three runs and they sealed the win in the sixth with two final runs off one of the aforementioned home runs for the run-rule.

The loss was charged to Abby Shrout, who pitched into the fourth inning. Also pitching for MHS was Thompson. Shrout had a scoreless third inning, facing three batters.
