DODSONVILLE — For their final home game of the season, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs didn't disappoint the home crowd, defeating the Peebles Lady Indians, 58-36.
The Southern Hills Athletic Conference win by the Lady Mustangs puts them at 13-8 overall and 9-3 in the conference. Their final game of the regular season (and SHAC slate) will be on Thursday at Ripley.
Also on Monday night, it was Parents Night for LC, and they also celebrated the careers of their two seniors, Morgan Fittro and Caitlin Davidson, who played their final game on their home court.
Fittro finished her final home game with nine points.
"Last home game of the season, and emotions were running high," LC head coach Whitney Lewis said. "Morgan and Caitlin playing their final home games as seniors … coming out we were a little tight, but got things rolling a little bit.
"Morgan has been on the varsity roster for four years now, which is special because she began when I became head coach. Caitlin has been in the program as well, and both kids are dedicated and give their all every time they are on the floor. We are proud to have them as seniors."
Though the first half was slower than the Lady Mustangs are accustomed to, they did lead the quarter with a 10-5 advantage. The first frame saw LC junior Ali Little score eight of the 10 Lady Mustang points, while McKayla Binkley scored two points in the quarter.
Little led all scorers with a game-high 24 points.
LC took a 32-17 halftime lead with a 22-point second frame, while holding PHS to 12 points in the frame.
"We never really got into our flow of the game, but when you play teams twice in our league, they know what you are going to do," Lewis said. "They did a good job of controlling the tempo a little bit, but we came out with the win."
The third quarter was full of baskets from downtown, with Peebles and LC combining for seven 3-pointers in the quarter, though it was LC taking a 20-point lead at the end of the quarter at 49-29.

WIth 3:40 on the clock, Hannah Binkley sank a 3-pointer, not only giving LC a 10-0 run in a span of two minutes, but it began a streak of five straight 3-pointers by the two teams.
Mariah Knauff answered the trey by Binkley with one of her own at the 2:31 mark, but Binkley came right back to make a second trey of the quarter for a 45-23 LC lead with 2:21 left on the third-quarter clock. Knauff finished the game with six points.
Kaitlyn Toller, who led the Lady Indians with 13 points, didn't leave Peebles out of the party, making two straight treys to get the Lady Indians back to within 16 points of the host LC squad.
The final four points of the quarter were scored by McKayla Binkley, leaving LC ahead 49-29. McKayla Binkley finished with 10 points, and Hannah Binkley totaled six. Also with six points for LC was Waits. Bailey Leininger finished the game with three points.
In the fourth, LC outscored PHS, 9-7, sealing the 22-point win.
In JV play, LC defeated PHS, 22-9. Emily Roush led LC with five points, and Abigail Blankenship followed with four points.
