Lady Mustangs win sectional title over Peebles

It was a good day for the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs Saturday afternoon on their home field as they shutout the Peebles Lady Indians 7-0, en route to a Division III SE District Sectional title.
LC (12-4-1) dominated the match, out-shooting their opponent 29-9 in 80 minutes, along with leading by a 5-0 score at the half.
"The girls played well," LC coach Dennis West said. "This was a good match for us. Our passing was better, and we moved well. I was very pleased with our play."
Taylor Scott and Sarah Spidel each scored two goals to lead the Lady Mustangs to victory.

In the first half, Scott began with an unassisted goal with 33:13 on the clock, followed by a goal by Morgan Fittro with 19:54 remaining in the half.
Sam Whitenack added the third goal of the match with a kick from 15 yards away on the left side at the 9:57 mark.
Spidel made it a four-goal lead with an unassisted goal at the 4:01 mark of the first half. Scott added her second goal with 8.9 seconds on the clock off a rebound.
Spidel added her second goal with the assist by Whitenack, leaving 25:51 in the second half, and Shelby Stewart added the final goal (3:13) off a cross kick by Fittro for the assist.
Emma Setty totaled eight saves in the shutout performance.
LC will host Eastern Brown Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the district semifinal match. LC tied EB 1-1 and lost 2-1 to EB earlier this season.
