Two four-run innings, with another run sprinkled in, led to a non-conference win for the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs Wednesday evening, defeating the Georgetown Lady G-Men, 9-3 at LCHS.
LC (3-1, 5-5) totaled nine hits and committed three errors, while GHS had six hits and two errors.
"Georgetown beat us in scrimmage play, pretty bad," LC head coach Spring Roberts said. "When I look back at the book, there are so many things we are doing differently and better.
"When we first met Georgetown in scrimmage, all four coaches said to me, 'you guys are going to be tough.' They found out Wednesday just how tough we were going to get and still succeeding."
The Lady Mustangs trailed after the top of the first as GHS scored one run, but that lead for the visitors didn't last long as LC scored four runs in the first, followed by a one-run second to take a 5-1 advantage.
LC added four more runs in the fourth to complete their scoring. GHS scored one run in their part of the fourth and one last run in the fifth.

Of the nine hits by the Lady Mustangs, six (two each) came off the bats of Hannah Binkley, Shelby Chisman and Nikki Jones.
Binkley was 2-for-4 with one run, a double and two RBIs. Chisman was also 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Jones finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Earning one hit apiece were Madysyn Creighton, Chelsi Hacker and Lexi Waits. Creighton had two RBIs and one run. Hacker had one run and one RBI.
"I am proud of how the girls played defense but more proud of our hitting," Roberts said. "Georgetown kept us off balance, but we were still able to hit the ball."
Hayley McConnaughey had one run and one RBI, while Megan Pointer and Waits each had a run and a walk.
The winning pitcher was Binkley, who pitched all seven innings. She allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. The freshman walked two and struck out two.
"Hannah kept a lot of the balls on the outside corner," Roberts said. "Hannah has a nice spin to the ball when she pitches, and that's what we need, a lot of movement. But once again, she knew she had defense behind her."
