Lady Mustangs win 3rd straight

BAINBRIDGE — Playing their first game since their holiday break, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs picked up from where they left off by winning their third straight game. This time, LC defeated the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats, 55-34 Wednesday at PVHS.
During this current streak, LC has won all three games away from their home court, as they defeated Hillsboro and Fairfield on the road.
The win lifts LC to 6-3 overall. They are 2-4 in the Southern Hills League.
As for their win against PV, LC led 12-8 after the first quarter. Following the first quarter, LC dominated PV with a 13-5 second frame for a 25-13 lead at the half. In the third quarter, LC outscored the host Lady Bearcats 17-5 for a commanding 42-18 advantage headed into the final eight minutes.
PV led the fourth at 16-13.
The Lady Mustangs were led in scoring by Brooke Hertlein with 20 points. The senior finished with a double-double by adding 12 rebounds, along with six steals, two blocks and one assist.
LC junior Laney Lewis followed with 17 points, while adding six steals, five rebounds, two assists and one block.
Karen Hilt and Madysyn Creighton each scored six points for LC. Hilt added four assists, one steal and made one 3-pointer. Creighton had four rebounds and one steal. Combined, the duo was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Emma Setty finished with four points (one rebounds, one block), and Ashley Tenas had two points and one rebound. Sarah Rosselott tallied one rebound and one steal, and Morgan Fittro finished with four rebounds and one steal.
LC tallied 18 two-point baskets and one 3-pointer, along with a 16-of-24 performance from the free-throw line. The Lady Mustangs also committed 14 fouls and 14 turnovers, while grabbing a total of 28 rebounds (17 offensive).
For the game, LC shot 33 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free-throw line.
The Lady Mustangs will play again on Thursday, Jan. 5 as they travel to face Manchester.
