Lady Mustangs win 2 in a row

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs dominated Southern Hills League and Highland County rival Fairfield, Friday by a score of 11-3 at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

The win lifts LC to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the SHL.

LC scored six first-half goals and five in the second half. The Lady Lions had three second-half goals.

Scoring the first six LC goals were Taylor Scott, Lindsey Rosselott, Brooke Hertlein, Sarah Spidel and Brandi Hunter.

Second-half goals were scored by Katie Mahoney, Shelbi Halverson, Karen Hilt, Breian West and Hannah West.

In the opening half, Scott beat the defense of FHS for the first goal at 39:12. Rosselott came back with two more goals at the 38:45 and 34:17 marks of the first half. Rosselott's second goal was assisted on a cross kick by Hilt.

Hertlein scored with 30:32 left in the first half with Hilt gaining her second assist.  Spidel scored with 17:37 remaining and Hunter had the sixth goal of the game with 2:31 left in the half. Hunter's goal was assisted by Meredith Fittro.

In the second half, LC scored at the 30:00 mark with Mahoney putting the ball into the back to the net off a pass from Hilt.

Halverson netted her goal at the 26:15 mark of the final 40 minutes with the assist by Breian West off a cross kick.

Hilt kicked a 15-yard goal with 20:50 remaining, and the final two LC goals were scored at the 9:52 and 6:00 marks by Breian West and Hannah West. Breian's goal was assisted by Spidel.

The three Lady Lion goals came from Kylie Bates, Courtney Huff and Dora Grooms. Their three second-half goals came at 34:30, 32:00 and 22:00.

Lindsey Tolle had eight saves for FHS. Halverson had one save in 40 minutes at goal. Emma Setty played the second half at keeper with one save.

LC out-shot FHS 34-7.

Lynchburg-Clay 4, North Adams 0

On Sept. 29, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs defeated the North Adams Lady Green Devils 4-0 at North Adams High School.

LC scored one goal in the first half when Karen Hilt scored off a rebound with 1:57 left in the opening half.

In the second half, LC scored three times with Taylor Scott scoring twice and Hilt scoring the final goal of the game.

Scott's goals came with 27:38 and 22:00 remaining in the game. Her goals were assisted by Brooke Hertlein and Hilt, both off cross kicks.

Hilt's final goal came with 19:17 left as she beat the defense of NA.

Shelbi Halverson had three saves at keeper in 70 minutes of play.

LC out-shot NA 27-1.

"We started very slow on offense," LC coach Dennis West said. "We took 27 shots, but only four found the net. We must do better than that. Credit our defense, they were really dominant."[[In-content Ad]]
