Lady Mustangs topple Whiteoak

DODSONVILLE — Coming off their biggest win of the season, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs continued to add to their overall win total on Thursday night, defeating Southern Hills League and Highland County rival Whiteoak 48-27 at LCHS.
The Lady Mustangs have won eight of their last nine games.
LC (5-4, 11-5) led early at 17-5 following the first quarter, and after a 12-8 second frame, the Lady Mustangs built a halftime lead of 29-13.
In the third quarter, LC outscored the Lady 'Cats 12-5, and in the final eight minutes, it was the Lady 'Cats winning the fourth at 9-7.
Leading all scorers was LC junior Laney Lewis with 16 points. She earned a double-double with 12 rebounds (six offensive), along with three steals and two assists. Lewis was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, while connecting six times from the field.
Senior Brooke Hertlein followed with 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocked shots. Hertlein was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Fellow senior Karen Hilt scored five points, while adding to her overall totals four steals, two rebounds and one assist.
Emma Setty chipped in three points (two rebounds, two steals, one blocked shot). while Morgan Fittro (two rebounds, one steal), Madysyn Creighton (two steals), Sarah Spidel, Sam Whitenack (one rebound) and Ashley Tenas (three rebounds) each scored two points. Sarah Rosselott had three steals, one assist and one blocked shot.
Whiteoak (1-10, 1-16) stats were unavailable.
