Lady Mustangs topple MHS

GREENFIELD — The opening seven minutes by Lynchburg-Clay's Taylor Scott set the tone and tempo for their match with the McClain Lady Tigers, Wednesday. Scott collected three goals for a hat-trick in the opening minutes as the Lady Mustangs coasted to an 11-0 win.
The win, which put LC at 4-0 overall, was basically sealed when Scott took the field as she scored goals with 36:51, 34:22 and 32:27 left on the opening-half clock for a 3-0 lead.
Scott left the field following her third goal and didn't return until the final minutes of the match as her teammates scored the remaining eight goals of the match.
Also scoring goals in the first half were Morgan Fittro, Hannah West, MyKenzie Reynolds and Sydney Cromer for a seven-goal lead at the half.
The four second-half goals came with two by Brandi Hunter, one from Shelby Stewart and the final one by Sam Whitenack.
"I told Coach Rivas after the match I was impressed with how his girls played the entire 80 minutes," LC head coach Dennis West said. "It's tough when your players need a rest and you look over and the bench is empty … I've been there before, and that's tough.

"His girls played until the end of the game and have a lot to be proud of."
LC's defense continued their early season dominance as they have allowed just one goal in four matches.
As for the host Lady Tigers (1-2), they were outnumbered 24-11 with no bench payers available, but they never stopped battling, even without a break.
"The girls played hard," MHS head coach Luis J. Rivas said. "The thing about soccer is there are no timeouts, so we had to wait to talk with the girls at the half, and following the half, they played much better.
"Lynchburg-Clay is a quality opponent, and it's hard to keep up with them when they have 24 kids to rotate. Though this is a tough week, the girls can take the physical play."
LC is scheduled to host their first home match of the season Friday when they host Eastern Brown. MHS plays again on Thursday, hosting Hillsboro.
