Lady Mustangs rout West Union

WEST UNION — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs gained their second win of the season on Monday, easily defeating the West Union Lady Dragons 82-32 at WUHS.
The game was in control by LC from start to finish as they led 26-8 after the first quarter and at halftime at 44-7.
In the third quarter, LC added another 23 points to their totals and in the fourth scored 15 points, as LC broke a three-game losing streak.
LC (1-2, 2-3) earned their first Southern Hills League win of the season in large part from the scoring of nine players, including Laney Lewis with a game-high 28 points.
Lewis had 10 two-point field goals, along with two 3-pointers and a 2-of-3 night from the free-throw line. The junior point guard wasn't done as she added 12 steals, nine rebounds, three blocked shots and three assists for a double-double.
Brooke Hertlein, a senior, scored 19 points, with six rebounds, four blocked shots, four steals and two assists.
Senior Karen Hilt added 13 points, along with five steals, four rebounds and one assist.
Junior Emma Setty was the fourth Lady Mustang to have double-figure scoring with 10 points. The post player also tallied four steals and three rebounds.
Also scoring for LC were Morgan Fittro (2), Madysyn Creighton (2), Sarah Rosselott (4), Ashley Tenas (2) and Sam Whitenack (2).
Creighton also had two assists, while Rosselott added five rebounds and one block. Tenas had two rebounds and one steal. Whitenack had one rebound, and Ginny Gadzinski had three rebounds.
LC totaled 35 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and finished 6-of-11 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Mustangs will play again on Thursday as they travel to face the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors.
