Lady Mustangs open league play with loss to North Adams

SEAMAN — On a night with 20-plus turnovers, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were just unable to be in the lead as the final buzzer sounded.
LC committed 27 turnovers en route to a 42-39 Southern Hills League loss Thursday night to the North Adams Lady Green Devils at NAHS. This was each team's SHL opener for the 2011-12 season.
The loss drops LC to 0-1 in the SHL and 1-1 overall. NA moves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the league standings.
LC scored 12 points in the first half, six in each of the first two quarters. In the third frame, the Lady Mustangs added 12 points to their side of the scoreboard and ended the final eight minutes with 15 points for their total of 39.
Lynchburg-Clay was led in scoring by senior Brooke Hertlein with 20 points. Hertlein made eight two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. The senior also collected eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals on the night.
Junior Laney Lewis wrapped up the SHL contest with eight points, but took over the boards with 20 rebounds. She also added one steal.
Emma Setty, a junior, scored five points and added two rebounds, two steals and one assist. She was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Senior Karen Hilt scored four points on two field goals. Hilt also had three rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Wrapping up the LC scoring was Madysyn Creighton (a freshman) with two points, while adding two rebounds and one assist to her totals.
Also contributing were Sarah Rosselott and Ashley Tenas each with three rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs will play again on Monday, Dec. 5 as they travel for their second straight road game, this time facing Highland County rival McClain in a non-league contest at McClain High School.
GAME NOTES: LC totaled 41 rebounds (nine offensive) … LC also had six steals and 21 fouls ... For the game, LC was 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.
