It took until the second half for the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs to break away from the Ripley Lady Blue Jays, but that is exactly what they did, defeating their Southern Hills Athletic Conference visitors, 4-1 Friday.

LC and RHS were tied at 1-1 following the first half, but LC managed to outscore their SHAC rival, 3-0 in the final 40 minutes.

"This was a very well-played match," LC coach Dennis West said. "Ripley's defense was tough to penetrate.

"Their (RHS) sweeper was very active, but our pressure finally worked in the second half."

In the first half, LC scored the first goal as Morgan Fittro scored the first of two goals for a 1-0 advantage with 28:48 as she beat the defense of RHS.

RHS tied the score with 6:29 on the clock as the ball bounced off the keeper's hands.

In the second half, LC took full control with LC taking a two-goal lead following an own goal by the Lady Blue Jays, followed by Hannah Binkley making it a 3-0 lead as she kicked the ball into the back of the goal off a cross kick by McKayla Binkley.

For the match, LC out-shot RHS, 19-11 as RHS keeper Suzanne Dragoo had 14 saves.

The win by LC keeps them undefeated on the season at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the SHAC.
