RIPLEY — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs moved to 2-0 on the season Wednesday as they gained their second shutout of the year with a 3-0 win over the Ripley Lady Blue Jays in a non-league match.

Though both teams are members of the Southern Hills League, Wednesday's match was their match that didn't count towards the league standings, but that didn't matter much as LC scored two runs in the first half and added their final goal in the second 40-minute period.

"We had an excellent effort by our defense, but we are still trying to find consistency on offense," LC head coach Dennis West said.

The lead went to two goals when Ripley scored on an own goal with 3:04 left in the opening half as RHS knocked in the ball kicked from the corner by LC's Samantha Whitenack.

In the second half, the final goal was scored at the 6:49 mark as Morgan Fittro kicked the ball off a rebound off the keeper's hands.

At goal for LC, Emma Setty had two saves, and for Ripley, Tori Boone totaled eight saves as LC outshot RHS, 21-5.

LC will play on the road for their third straight match on Monday, Aug. 27 as they face Eastern Brown at 4:30 p.m.
