Lady Mustangs hold on for OT win at Ripley

RIPLEY — It took an extra four minutes, but the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs left Ripley High School with a Southern Hills League win. LC fended off a tough Ripley team for a 45-44 overtime win on Thursday night at RHS.

LC (4-3, 8-4) not only fended off RHS with a 4-3 overtime period but held off an onslaught of 3-pointers by the Lady Blue Jays as RHS sank eight.

Though RHS (5-3, 11-5) scored 24 of their 44 points via the 3-ball, it still wasn't enough to overtake LC.

The Lady Mustangs broke out in the first quarter with a 14-5 lead. RHS came out in the second outscoring the Lady Mustangs 12-10, as LC led 24-15.

In the third, both teams scored 11 points, and RHS took the game to OT with a fourth quarter of 13-6.

Leading LC in scoring was senior Brooke Hertlein with 12 points. Hertlein finished with a double-double by grabbing 14 rebounds (five offensive). She added six blocks and one steal.

Laney Lewis followed with 11 points (one 3-pointer) with eight rebounds, six steals, three blocks and three assists.[[In-content Ad]]Emma Setty added eight points, along with one assist, one steal and one block, followed by Morgan Fittro and Karen Hilt with five points each. Fittro sank one 3-pointer, while Hilt was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Fittro added four rebounds and two steals, while Hilt had five rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Madysyn Creighton added one rebound, as LC finished with 32 total rebounds (12 offensive). LC also tallied 10 blocks and committed 22 turnovers.

LC will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Blanchester in a non-league game. On Thursday, Jan. 19, LC will play in an SHL game against North Adams (7-2, 10-4).
