Lady Mustangs grind out win over Eastern Brown

DODSONVILLE — Before the game, the seniors, along with parents, were honored, and though the game was a little tougher than planned, a win is still a win as the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs defeated the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors, 41-29 in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play.
The win by LC (15-4) keeps them even with the North Adams Lady Green Devils as NA defeated Peebles, 46-43 Monday. In the Division I standings, LC stands at 8-3 in the league, and NA is now 9-3.
LC has league games remaining at Whiteoak on Jan. 31 and at Peebles on Feb. 7. Their game at Fairfield on Monday, Feb. 4 is their non-conference meeting.
On Monday's final home game, the Lady Mustangs scored their first four points and never trailed for the entire game as senior Laney Lewis scored the first four points, as all four seniors started the game for the Lady Mustangs, including Emma Setty, Ginny Gadzinski and Ryleigh Jackson.
"This was a great night for our seniors being Parents Night," LC head coach Whitney Lewis said, "There were a lot of emotions, but we did have some letup. The thing about tonight is good teams find a way to win."
Coach Lewis spoke about the four seniors.
"We have three who have been here for four years, and Ryleigh moved here her junior year," Lewis said. "All four are hardworking kids, and all do what is best for the team. This night (Parents Night) is always special."
Setty, who finished with six points, made the score 6-2, and from there, Ali Little (who totaled four points) and Setty made it a 12-10 score to end the first frame. EB tied the score at 10 in the first but never was able to gain the lead.

Lewis led all scorers with 14 points and totaled 13 points for a double-double. Little added seven rebounds.
In the second, Sarah Rosselott, who totaled 10 points, scored four straight points to start the frame, later followed with a three-point play from Lewis and another two points from Rosselott for a 21-11 LC lead with 5:17 left in the quarter.
EB ended the second with three free throws, as LC led the first half, 21-14.
LC led the third quarter by a 27-20 score, with points from Rosselott, Lewis and Setty. In the third, EB got to within five points of tying the score following a 3-pointer from Mariah Johnson with 25 seconds left in the quarter.
Johnson led EB with nine points, followed by Kayla Seigla with eight points and Tressie Lewis with six. Emily Turner totaled five points, and rounding out the EB scoring was Molly Prine with one.
The fourth quarter for the Lady Mustangs was their best as they outscored the visiting Lady Warriors, 14-9. Scoring for LC in the final frame were Morgan Fittro (two points), Madysyn Creighton (two points), Lewis, Rosselott and Shelby Stewart, who sank a 3-pointer. Creighton also led LC with three steals, tied with Lewis.
LC finished 12-of-18 from the free-throw line, while EB was 9-of-15.
In JV play, LC defeated EB, 31-27. Leading LC was Bailey Leininger with nine points. Leading EB was Alexa Forsythe with nine points.
