DODSONVILLE — The final three innings for the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs showed they were able to battle back when their backs were against the wall.

The first five innings for the Lady Mustangs weren't much for them on the scoreboard at their home field during a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game against the visiting North Adams Lady Green Devils.

The final three innings were where the group earned their seventh SHAC win of the season, scoring six of their runs for a 6-5 eight-inning win Thursday.

"We kept fighting, even when most of the calls were against us," LC head coach Spring Roberts said. "The slappers were on top of it, and even though we didn't score until the sixth inning, the girls played well."

For LC, who trailed 4-0 when the bottom of the sixth inning began, they left the inning down two runs with Chelsi Hacker (3-for-4) and Brittany Allen scoring runs for the Lady Mustangs. Hacker reached the bases with a double, and Allen singled to make it to first base.

Lexi Waits reached on an infield error, and Megan Pointer singled as those moves helped the runs score. Pointer finished 5-for-5 with four singles and a double.

In the bottom of the seventh, it took just two batters to tie the score with Madysyn Creighton (2-for-5) taking first on a single and Hannah Binkley tying the score at 4-4 with a two-run home run.

Creighton also had two steals in the game, putting her at 43 on the season.

North Adams took the lead in the top of the eighth to put even more pressure on the Lady Mustangs in extra innings.

No sweat.

Waits began the inning with a single, followed by Pointer taking first on a base hit. After a strikeout, it was Binkley coming up clutch again with the bat, knocking in the game-winning runs with a single to the outfield. Binkley finished 2-for-5.

Also with hits for LC were Hayley McConnaughey and Nikki Jones.

As for North Adams, they led 2-0 after two innings and added one run in the fourth. Their aforementioned 4-0 lead came with one run in the sixth.

Binkley was also the winning pitcher, going all eight innings in the circle. She finished with three strikeouts, while allowing three earned runs.
