Lady Mustangs gain 2nd win this week; defeat Manchester

DODSONVILLE — For the second time this week the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs defended their home court, and in the process Thursday night against the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, gained a big Southern Hills League win, defeating MHS 51-43.
The Lady Mustangs controlled the paint by tallying 12 blocked shots, while holding the Lady Greyhounds to just seven points in the fourth and final frame.
LC (2-2, 5-3) gained a five-point lead after the first quarter with a 17-12 lead, and followed that quarter up with another 14 points for a 31-24 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, LC was held to six points, while MHS scored 12 points.
LC was led in scoring by Brooke Hertlein with 14 points (6-of-15 from the field) with a 2-of-4 performance from the free-throw line. Hertlein tallied five blocked shots, four steals and three assists.
Laney Lewis scored 13 points (5-of-8 from the field) with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
Meredith Fittro added nine points and one steal. Hannah Blankenship scored seven points, while tallying five blocked shots, five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Lillian Blankenship finished with six points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Karen Hilt scored two points, with six rebounds, two steals and two assists. Emma Setty had one rebound.
The Lady Mustangs had 11 turnovers.
LC now stands at 5-3 overall, 2-2 in the SHL. Manchester drops to 4-5 overall, 3-3 in the SHL.
