Lady Mustangs fall in regional finals

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs had their season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, losing in the Division III Regional Finals by a 4-0 score against reigning state champion Hamilton Badin.
LC ends the year with an overall record of 18-2-1, winning the SE District championship and finishing as one of the Top 8 teams in the state for Division III soccer.
Head coach Dennis West spoke about the regional final match.
"The past two years in the regionals, we've faced the reigning state champions, and it was obvious why Badin were the state champions," West told The Highland County Press. "They (Badin) are a talented team and were a tough team."
At the half, LC trailed by a 2-0 score. Badin added two more goals in the second half.
"We were able to contain the three players we wanted to, but they had others who picked up the slack," West said.
The Lady Mustangs were also the No. 9 state-ranked team in the coaches poll at the conclusion of the regular season.
But all good things must come to an end, and that was the case for the Lady Mustangs, as they were shut out for the first time since their season opener.
In the postseason, LC outscored their opponents, 15-4, holding their opponents scoreless until the regional final loss.
The first loss of the season was the season opener by a 1-0 score against Western Brown.
"This was another outstanding season, and we did well up until the final game," West said. "We showed we deserved to be playing at this level, and we didn't embarrass ourselves.
"The girls showed we are a quality program, and I hope to continue that next season."
LC will say goodbye to seniors: Sam Whitenack, Morgan Fittro, Sydney Cromer, Keanna Oaks, Caitlin Davidson, Taylor Little and MyKenzie Reynolds.
"This senior class has the best record in program history," West said. "On top of that, they made the regional finals back-to-back years and have set a high standard for everyone to obtain."
This postseason, LC won matches against Peebles (7-0), North Adams (4-0), West Muskingum (2-0) and Bishop Rosecrans (2-0).
