DODSONVILLE — Lynchburg-Clay girls soccer coach Dennis West described the Lady Mustangs' most recent game against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays as a good game, considering the number of his players who were sick or injured.
The obstacles against LC weren't enough to keep them out of the win column for the third time this season, defeating Ripley, 3-1 at LCHS.
In the Southern Hills League contest the score was tied after the first half, with LC scoring the first goal on a cross kick from Karen Hilt and goal by Taylor Scott with 19:28 left in the first 40 minutes.
At the 1:57 mark the Lady Blue Jays tied the game in the first with their lone goal. The goal came from a 30 yard out pass from Eitel with the goal by Carpenter.
In the second half the Lady Mustangs scored two goals for the eventual two-goal win.
Hilt scored the first goal of the second half as she broke through and went past the Lady Blue Jays' defense with 33:12 mark of the half.
Scott scored her second goal of the game with 12:03 left in the final half. The goal came off a cross kick by Breian West.
Senior LC keeper Shelbi Halverson had six saves in 80 minutes.
The Lady Blue Jays had six combined saves with Wright and Bachman at the goal.
LC out shot Ripley, 18-11.
"We did what was necessary to win," West said. "The fair break will give us the time to recover and be ready to play Hillsboro on Sept. 15."
The victory gives LC an overall record of 3-2 with an SHL record of 2-0.
