One word easily describes the play of the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs Saturday afternoon in their sectional final victory: "dominant."

The word "dominant" may not even do them justice, as they defeated the Portsmouth West Lady Tigers, 11-0 to advance to the district semifinal round.

LC's defense didn't allow the visiting Lady Tigers to even take a shot at the goal, while LC built a 9-0 lead at halftime in the 40-degree weather at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

The win moves the state-ranked Lady Mustangs to 16-0-1 overall.

"We just played an opponent that is young and that is a new program," LC coach Dennis West said. "They'll (PW) will get better, but (Saturday) we were just the better team."

The Lady Mustangs will now face Eastern Brown in the district semifinals at LCHS on Tuesday, Oct. 22. EB defeated the Fairfield Lady Lions, 9-1 on Saturday. The game start time may be changed to a 4:30 p.m. start.

In their last meeting with the Lady Warriors, LC defeated EB, 7-1.

Against PW, the Lady Mustangs saw Keanna Oaks tally a hat-trick by scoring the first three LC goals in the first half at 36:55, 27:32 and 17:16. The first goal by Oaks was off a corner kick from Sam Whitenack.

Oak's second was off the keeper, and the third goal was assisted by Morgan Fittro.

With 12:27 left in the first half, Shelby Stewart made it a 4-0 lead with a goal that was assisted by Oaks, and just over a minute later, Whitenack put LC ahead by five goals at the 11:22 mark with the assist credited to Ali Little.

Still in the first half, Hannah Binkley joined in on the goal scoring at the 5:52 mark with a goal, which was assisted by Alexa Cochran off a corner kick.

McKayla Binkley put the hosts ahead 7-0 with 3:54 left in the opening 40-minute half with an unassisted goal.

The score quickly moved to an eight-goal advantage with a penalty kick from Fittro at the 2:02 mark, and the final first-half goal came from a second goal from Hannah Binkley with 31 seconds left in the opening half for a 9-0 lead.

In the second half, Sydney Cromer added the final two goals with 7:00 and 4:30 left on the scoreboard clock with the first of her two goals coming off a header.
