Lady Mustang defense gains 8th shutout of season

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs earned their eighth shutout of the 2013 season Tuesday as they defeated the Blanchester Lady Wildcats, 5-0 at BHS.
LC's non-conference win puts them at 11-0-0 overall in '13 as they have built a Southern Hills Athletic Conference mark of 5-0-0 on the season.
All five Lady Mustang goals came in the second half, with five different players contributing to the scoring.
"This was our eighth shutout by the defense," LC coach Dennis West said. "We were off-tempo a little in the first half, but everything started working in the second half."
Morgan Fittro was first to score a goal for the Lady Mustangs as she scored off a corner kick from Alexa Cochran with 34:00 left in the match.
Sydney Cromer followed six minutes later by putting the ball into the back of the net off a throw-in from teammate Ali Little.

Sarah Spidel added to the LC lead with 18:21 on the scoreboard as she too scored off a throw-in, this one from McKayla Binkley, with 18:21 remaining in the road matchup.
From there, Keanna Oaks made it a four-goal advantage with a goal that left 8:12 in the match off a pass from Lexi Waits. The final LC goal of the match came with 1:28 as Waits scored a goal by beating the defense and kicking the ball into the goal from 20 yards out.
"The second half was one of the best halves we've played this year," West said. "The girls are playing at a high level right now."
At goal for the Lady Mustangs, Bailey Leininger totaled eight saves in the first half, and Sabrina Duncan collected four saves in the second half. LC outshot their opponents, 24-10.
