Lady Lions open season with loss to East Clinton
LEESBURG – With double digit efforts from both of their top post players, the Fairfield Lady Lions were unable to win their 2009-10 season opener, as they fell to non-league foe East Clinton 55-41 Saturday night at Grandle Gymnasium, in Leesburg.
FHS junior Chelsey Riddle, who gained a double-double, led the Lady Lions with 17 points, going 5 of 12 from the field, and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. The junior gained a total of 14 rebounds, nine which came on the defensive side. Riddle also had five steals and two blocks.
Fairfield senior Gabby Boone netted 10 points in the first game of the year, going 3 of 7 from the field and finishing 4 of 5 from the foul line. She gained four offensive rebounds and three defensive for a total of seven boards.
Megan Sword, a FHS junior, scored seven points making 5 of 8 free throws. The guard had five steals.
Senior Lauren Bowman netted six points, including one 3-pointer. Bowman led the Lady Lions with three assists. Senior Sadie Jones had seven rebounds, six on defense.
Kortney Paris went 1 of two from the foul line.
FHS was 11 of 50 from the field for 22 percent, and 18 of 27 in free throw attempts for 66.7 percent. They gained a total of 35 rebounds (12 offensive, 23 defensive).
The game was tied at 24 after two quarters. In the third EC came out and outscored FHS 14-9 and in the fourth 17-8.
FHS was 1 of 14 from beyond the arc.
