Lady Indians win 1st home meet; Tiger boys win at Hillsboro

The Hillsboro girls swim team won their inaugural home swimming meet Thursday as they defeated McClain, 50-40. In the boys meet, the Tiger Sharks defeated HHS, 52-41.
For the girls meet, HHS won seven events, while MHS won four.
"I'm very proud of our girls getting their first win, ever," HHS coach Joe Rhonemus said. "It was a real team effort since we had several kids out sick. We moved some girls around, and they all willingly swam the events I asked and did an outstanding job.
"We had several great individual swims; however, I am proud of how the girls have continued to work hard. Their effort showed tonight. We have some things to work on and get healthy … when we do, I like our chances in most meets."
In the 200-yard medley relay, HHS was first with Sydni Cox, Ali McKenna, Amie Griffith and Krista Savage gaining a winning time of 2:25.36. Second was MHS at 2:30.33 from the team of Kaylee Smith, Amber Sowders, Morgan Dettwiller and Anna Ehlers. The "B" MHS team was third at 2:46.14 from the team of Victoria Rolfe, Alyssa Faulconer, Lindsey Parsons and Makayla Mann.
The 200-yard freestyle was won by Dettwiller of MHS at 2:27.41, followed by Greta Rossman (HHS) at 3:04.03 and third, Taylor Wheaton (MHS) at 3:16.29.
For the 200-yard individual medley, Griffith (HHS) won at 3:05.92, followed by McClain's Parsons at 3:14.97 and in third, Mann (MHS) at 4:14.94.
HHS won the 50-yard freestyle with Cox winning with a time of 29.59. Savage (HHS) was second at 32.39, and in third was Ehlers (MHS) at 33.87.
The 100-yard butterfly was won by McKenna (HHS) at 1:49.08.
In the 100-yard freestyle, HHS won again with Savage finishing at 1:14.56, followed in second by teammate Griffith (1:15.20), and in third was Ehlers (MHS) at 1:18.33.
The 500-yard freestyle was won by McClain's Dettwiller at 6:46.03, followed by Rossman (HHS) at 8:01.16 and Faulconer (MHS) in third at 8:15.49.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Cox, McKenna, Griffith and Savage (HHS) won at 2:09.16; followed by McClain in second with the team of Sowders, Ehlers, Faulconer and Dettwiller at 2:09.24. In third for HHS were Rossman, Lacee Emery, Brandi Wooton and Susmy Chakkaith.
For the 100-yard backstroke event, Hillsboro's Cox was first at 1:19.56, followed by Smith (MHS) at 1:34.55, and in third was Emery (HHS) at 1:46.23.
The 100-yard breaststroke was won by Sowders of MHS at 1:27.99. In second was McKenna (HHS) at 1:30.71, and in third was Mann (MHS) at 1:51.90.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay event, the winners were the McClain team of Parsons, Faulconer, Kayla Mosley and Sowders at 5:32.93. The second MHS team of Smith, Wheaton, Rolfe and Mann were second at 6:08.30, and in third was the HHS team of Wooton, Chakkaith, Rossman and Alex Walker.

"Give the girls from Greenfield a lot of credit too, there were some close races and some great swims on their part as well," Rhonemus said. "Alycia Brickey (MHS coach) is doing a great job with them. I am looking forward to the next time we swim. It will be another great contest."
The Tiger Sharks won the boys meet by 11 points as they won five events.
"I was very pleased with our effort against Greenfield," Rhonemus said of the boys meet. "They are the measuring stick for men's swimming in the SCOL. They have won the league the last several years, and for us to compete with them for the majority of the meet is promising.
"Where we fell short is in our numbers, we just don't have enough boys on our team to fill out the events to give us a chance to make it closer. Take nothing from Greenfield, they are a very good swim team, with excellent talent up and down their lineup."
The 200-yard medley relay was won by HHS with the team of Paul Burton, Conner Ernst, Nathan Boone and Braden Wildey at 2:12.94. In second was MHS (Tommy Free, Aaron Litteral, Trace Poore and Tommy Henry) at 2:25.85. Third place was HHS with the team of Cody VanLangen, Guy Bailey, Phillip Hall and Jonathon Fletcher at 2:27.22.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Daniel Mottie was first at 2:25.90, followed by Fletcher (HHS) at 2:58.36, and in third was McClain's Ryan Wilkin at 2:59.09.
The 200-yard individual medley was won by Hillsboro's Boone at 2:32.94, followed by McClain's Litteral at 3:01.50, and in third was Bailey at 3:19.40.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Free (MHS) was first at 25.38. In second was Wildey (HHS), at 25.96 and in third was Henry (MHS) at 28.15.
The 100-yard butterfly event was won by Bailey (HHS) at 1:41.40. In second was Poore (MHS) at 1:43.51, and in third was Storm Faulconer (MHS) at 2:04.73.
Boone won the 100-yard freestyle at 59.44, followed by McClain's Henry at 1:01.93 and Wildey (HHS) at 1:03.60.
The 500-yard freestyle was won by Free (MHS) at 6:21.80. He was followed by Poore (MHS) 7:45.24 and Fletcher (HHS) at 8:27.09.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Boone, Burton, Hall and Wildey (HHS) was first at 53.60. In second was the MHS team of Ryan Page, Free, Henry and Mottie at 1:53.67. Third place was the HHS team of VanLangen, Bailey, Ernst and Fletcher at 2:14.45.
The 100-yard backstroke was won by Paul Burton (HHS) at 1:22.43, followed by
Nick Torbett (MHS) at 1:23.32 and VanLangen (HHS) at 1:30.40.
In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Page (MHS) won at 1:27.33, followed by Litteral (MHS) at 1:30.86 and Ernst (HHS) at 1:35.45.
The 400-yard freestyle relay was won by MHS at 4:57.89 from the team of Poore, Mottie, Litteral and Page. The second MHS team in the event was Torbett, Riley, Wilkin and Adams, finishing with a time of 5:39.25.
"If we had a few more kids, we might have made this meet a little closer than it was," Rhonemus said. "Coach (Bradley) George has done a great job of keeping McClain swimming in top form and ready to compete at a high level."
For the girls meet, HHS won seven events, while MHS won four.

HHS won the 50-yard freestyle with Cox winning with a time of 29.59. Savage (HHS) was second at 32.39, and in third was Ehlers (MHS) at 33.87.
The 100-yard butterfly was won by McKenna (HHS) at 1:49.08.
In the 100-yard freestyle, HHS won again with Savage finishing at 1:14.56, followed in second by teammate Griffith (1:15.20), and in third was Ehlers (MHS) at 1:18.33.
The 500-yard freestyle was won by McClain's Dettwiller at 6:46.03, followed by Rossman (HHS) at 8:01.16 and Faulconer (MHS) in third at 8:15.49.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay event, the winners were the McClain team of Parsons, Faulconer, Kayla Mosley and Sowders at 5:32.93. The second MHS team of Smith, Wheaton, Rolfe and Mann were second at 6:08.30, and in third was the HHS team of Wooton, Chakkaith, Rossman and Alex Walker.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Free (MHS) was first at 25.38. In second was Wildey (HHS), at 25.96 and in third was Henry (MHS) at 28.15.
The 100-yard butterfly event was won by Bailey (HHS) at 1:41.40. In second was Poore (MHS) at 1:43.51, and in third was Storm Faulconer (MHS) at 2:04.73.
Boone won the 100-yard freestyle at 59.44, followed by McClain's Henry at 1:01.93 and Wildey (HHS) at 1:03.60.
The 500-yard freestyle was won by Free (MHS) at 6:21.80. He was followed by Poore (MHS) 7:45.24 and Fletcher (HHS) at 8:27.09.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Boone, Burton, Hall and Wildey (HHS) was first at 53.60. In second was the MHS team of Ryan Page, Free, Henry and Mottie at 1:53.67. Third place was the HHS team of VanLangen, Bailey, Ernst and Fletcher at 2:14.45.
